This is the world’s only Seetha Amman Temple, Built to South Indian architecture. According to the epic Ramayana, Seetha was held captive and hidden in this location by King Rama to protect her from King Ravana. The stream near this location is thought to be where Seetha bathed, and the rock beside it is where she sat to pray. Circular depressions on the rock face across the steam are thought to be the footprints of Ravana’s Elephant. There is one spot in the stream where the water cannot be drunk. Legend has it that Seetha cursed this spot, resulting in the bad taste. Elsewhere in the stream, the water is crystal clear.
